For the first time, Tashkent Metro served 1 million passengers in a single day. The millionth passenger was awarded a transport card granting free access to the capital’s public transportation for one year.
All metro stations in Tashkent will be equipped with metal detectors. The metro administration said the aim is to “enhance security and improve the quality of service”.
New navigation has been introduced at Alisher Navoi and Pakhtakor stations of the Tashkent underground. The project was initiated by private companies. Signs are in Uzbek, with partial translations into Russian and English.
Between January and May, the Tashkent Metro transported 68.5 million passengers. Compared to the same period last year, passenger traffic increased by 33.5%. May saw the highest passenger traffic with 15.8 million passengers.
Singapore-based STIE will advise on the design, construction of new lines and stations and modernisation of infrastructure in the Tashkent metro. Wilmar International may open a distribution hub in Uzbekistan, PSB Academy a training facility and Enercon Asia to install solar panels.
